A Chosen Generation

1 Peter 2:9-12 (NKJV)

9  But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

10  who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

11  Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,

12  having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.

I love this scripture and we all need to be reminded of it just as I was! And we all need to keep it close to our hearts and minds at all times! Especially when living in this ungodly world! I don’t know about anyone else, but the more time I spend with God in my thoughts, and in His word, and with His people, the more I really despise living in this ungodly world! Particularly when I’m at work amongst the unbelievers.

But we don’t have to fret! Because we have the assurance that when we believe in Jesus Christ we become part of a “chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people”

And as “His own special people” we get to “proclaim the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.”

And before we were saved we were lost! We were not part of God’s family! We were unbelievers living in our sins, with a one way ticket to Hell! But now we have “obtained mercy” we are “His own special people”. But we are also “sojourners and pilgrims” and this earth is not our home! We are Travelers destined to be with our Lord and Savior in the Heavenly Realms!

So how do we respond to this? How do we act as a chosen generation? As People of God? We “abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,” We distance ourselves from the sin within and we fight this spiritual war! And instead of getting frustrated and showing our dark side we act like people of God! We act like a royal priesthood! And by the power of The Holy Spirit we keep our tempers in check! We avoid getting upset and we stand strong in The Lord! For He is with us and He will protect us! And He will fight our battles for us!

God protects those whom He has adopted into His family! And when our conduct is right and we follow Christ’s example the results will be “honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against us as evildoers, they may, by our good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.” Amen?

Lord God,

Thank you for choosing us! Thank you for adopting us into Your family! Thank you for drawing us near and giving us Your Only Begotten Son who died on the cross for our sins! Thank you for the opportunity to escape death and condemnation! Thank you for giving us grace and mercy! Thank you for all that You have done! Without You we were lost and now we are found! We ask that You keep us safe, keep us from the evil one! We ask that Your Will be done! In Jesus’ name, amen!
