Being a light in spiritually dark times

Today’s world is indeed a dark world and unless you’re living on a deserted island by yourself you can’t go a day without being exposed to it. So as believers in the truth and followers of what’s good, what are we to do? How should we behave in this dark world? There’s only one thing that we can do, and that’s shine the light of Christ to the best of our ability, by relying on His Holy Spirit.

God’s word reminds us, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.” (Ephesians 5:8-11 NKJV)

“Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.” (Romans 13:13-14 NKJV)

As followers of Christ we follow the pattern of our teacher, we follow in the footsteps of Jesus, He is the example that we must follow! We remain in the world but are not of this world. We live for our eternal destiny in mind and store up treasures in heaven where there is no rust or decay. We look at the greater picture! God’s picture! The one He designed for us to live and enjoy. So in this dark world we are to be lights set high atop a mountain for all to see. We walk in the truth, we speak the truth! We follow God’s way, not our way, or the world’s way! We do what’s right in the sight of God eyes and walk with our heads held high as we walk in the spirit. We love one another as we love ourselves and spread the good news of Christ to all those around us. We use all opportunities to shine brightly in this dark world!

“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” (Ephesians 5:15-17 NKJV)

We understand God’s will by keeping and following His word, we open our bibles and read them!

Heavenly Father you are mighty, you are great! You are the one we need! We ask that You help us overcome the temptations of this world and help us to overcome our fears from following your Son Jesus. We need His strength to overcome what this world thinks is right and we know is wrong. Help us to be all that we can be in You. Help us to shine that light that draws those around us near to You. Help us to be good examples and good soldiers that follow the orders of their commander and chief! Help us to shine in this dark world. Help us be that bright star in a dim sky! Father it’s Your will that we need, it’s Your will that we must seek. Thank you for being there in our time of need, thank you for being You! In Jesus name we pray, amen!
