This is a devotional I have written for our youth but could apply to all!
Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. (Matthew 5:8 NKJV)
For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. (I John 2:16 NKJV)
We live in an ungodly world where many things are morally wrong and are promoted as right. If we turn on the television or open up a web browser and start flipping through the channels or pages we will immediately be exposed to profanity, pornography, sexual immorality, drunkenness, wickedness, lusts for the flesh, lusts for the eyes, you name it you’re gonna see it! It’s right there in the open! But you have a choice, a choice to be exposed and participate in the array of filth, or remain pure and godly and choose to have nothing to do with it!
Paul The Apostle tells Timothy, “Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” (II Timothy 2:22 NKJV)
When we’re young we want to learn about life and experience new things. We don’t want to be left out of the crowd, and giving in to peer pressure can end up coming easy. Don’t do it! Don’t give in!
Be firm and planted in your faith. Stand tall and let Jesus be your all! Stay focused and allow His Spirit to lead you in all that you do. Keep the peace with those who call on The Lord, and keep in good company with those who stand in the truth. Stay away from the evil ones, the rebellious youth! Stay pure and don’t give into sexual temptations, save yourself for God and marriage.
“Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” (I Timothy 4:12 NKJV)
we reach out to You to give us strength to hold to your truths and to stay pure in this ungodly world. We ask that Jesus would guide us in the right direction and keep us from the ungodly ways. Father help us to be godly examples among those who are weak. Help us to shine your light among the darkness of the world! In Jesus name we ask these things, amen!
