“Don’t get too close or you’re going to get burned!”

In Luke 5:4-6 (NKJV) Jesus had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”

But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.

When I was a child my mother was always cooking, baking, or canning something! And whenever I came into the kitchen to investigate the wonderful aroma, I would immediately head right for the stove. And the first words from my mother’s mouth would be, “Don’t get too close or you’re going to get burned!” Of course, I would not question her because mother knew best! Not! I would get too close and get burned! I would quickly realize she was right! She knew best! I should have listened!

When Jesus came to Simon and told him to let down his nets, he listened and let them down even though he believed they were not going to catch anything. He trusted Jesus and His word! The result? Their net over flowed with fish!

When we put our faith in God and become a follower of Christ we are born again. We become children of God; we now have a father in Heaven. And just like our mother, our father knows best! God created us; He knows how we should live, and what we should do. We continue in his word and follow in His ways, and He protects us; He fills our nets and keeps us from getting burned!

Father,
Thank you for your great gifts, thank you for your protection. Thank you for allowing those who put their trust in you to become part of your family. Father help us to stay the course, help us stay safe, keep us from getting burned! Keep our nets full! We live for you; we give you all the glory and honor! Not our will but yours! In Jesus’ precious name, amen!
