Examine Yourselves – II Corinthians 13:5

“Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.”

II Corinthians 13:5 NKJV

I ask you, are you walking according to the gospel that you profess? Are you a true follower of Christ or are you a make believer? Do you practice what you preach? Or are you a total phony? Do you “walk the walk” or just “talk the talk”?

Let’s follow the words of Paul The Apostle and…

“Examine ourselves as to whether we are in the faith.

Wait, before we do that… What is faith? A simple Google search gives us…

faith /fāTH/

Complete trust or confidence in someone or something.

Synonyms: trust, belief, confidence, conviction, credence, reliance, dependence

Nelson’s Illustrated Bible Dictionary defines faith as a belief in or confident attitude toward God, involving commitment to His will for one’s life.

If we examine ourselves will we find that we are in the faith? Do we have complete confidence in God and His one and only Son Jesus Christ and His will for our lives?

Do you put all your trust in the one who made you or do you put all your trust in the things of this world?

Are you dependent on God? Or are you dependent on your addictions? What, or who, gets you through your troubles?

We must ask ourselves the following questions: “Do I have complete confidence that God will get me through all my troubles or am I on the fence? Am I slipping away or am I fully committed? Am I weak in my faith or am I strong? Maybe I don’t even have the faith that it takes! Paul says,

“Test yourselves.”

When trouble comes what do you do? Do you seek God’s word first or do you rely on those who are of this world? Or do you rely on yourself? Because if you rely on yourself you’re going to go nowhere! Because as the Bible says, we are nothing without Christ! As a matter of fact without Christ we are just wanderers heading down an endless highway going nowhere but down! A highway that only leads to the fiery depths of hell! Where the Bible tells us, there will be “wailing and gnashing of teeth.”” (Matthew 13:50 NKJV) and that will be for eternity!

So… as Paul asked the Corinthians… I ask you…

“Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.”

If you say you have faith and you trust in God and His one only Son and you have asked Him into your life, then you have the Holy Spirit in you! You have the same power as Christ! You can, walk the walk and talk the talk! You can, present yourselves as qualified followers and doers of The Word! You can, over come all things! You can, do all things! And when trouble comes, you will, look to God and His word! You will, follow in the footsteps of Christ! You won’t, get angry! You won’t, be unloving! You won’t, be envious of your neighbor! You won’t, let your negative thoughts get the best of you! You will, bridal your evil tongue! And through your struggles, no mater how hard it may be, you will, stand tall and stand strong in The Lord! You will, be planted in God’s Word! And being a reader and follower of God’s Word, you will, overcome! Even if it all happens in the end when you cross over from this life to the next! You will achieve the victory! Amen?

Lord God,

We examine ourselves and we see our faults, we see our weaknesses, but we overlook them time and time again and try to live on our own when we need to be looking to you! Father we ask that you fill us afresh with Your Holy Spirit and help us to rely on that strength and that power that You have given us! Help us to forget about self, help us to overcome our downfalls! Keep us on the highway that leads to Jesus Christ and The Kingdom Of God, not the depths of hell! Keep us on the straight and narrow path! In Jesus name we ask! Not our will, but Yours be done! Amen! So be it!
