For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Romans 8:6 (NKJV)

To be carnally minded is to have your mind set on the things of this world, the things of this earth, the things that are temporal, and the things that don’t include God!

Before I became a follower of Jesus Christ I was indeed carnally minded! And God was definitely not part of the picture! My life was all about driving fast and taking chances! It was all about making a good pay check and spending it all on alcohol and the pleasures of this world! It was all about being happy and having a good time! It was all about having lots of things! It was all about wanting it all, and wanting it now!

The Bible tells us that we should lay up treasures in heaven…

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21 (NKJV)

Needless to say I know where my heart was! And all these things that I own, and all these pleasures that I received are nothing compared to the amount of money that has been wasted on pursuing them! It’s rather depressing now that I think about it! It kind of makes me sick to my stomach! There is nothing wrong with making lots of money and seeking the pleasures of this world, but when that’s all your mind is set on, all it will get you is an emptied bank account, a sick feeling in your stomach and eventual death! OH and a whole lot of worthless stuff to leave behind because you certainly can’t take it with you!

To be spiritually minded is life and peace

Eighteen months ago I was struggling with life; I was struggling with my job. I prayed to God for his help and He delivered me from the stress and burdens that were on my heart, I became unemployed! To most of us this is not a good thing! But for me it was the start of a new life, a new goal! It was certainly the best thing that could have ever happened! I have had the opportunity to spend a lot of time seeking God’s face through His word, and through the lives of other believers; I have been able to strengthen my knowledge of Christ and God’s will for my life. I have been able to strengthen my marriage and my love for my beautiful wife! I also believe I have been able to bless many others with the gifts that God has given me! The past eighteen months have been the best eighteen months of my life!

I have been blessed by God’s grace for sure! He has been there and has provided for me! I give all the Glory to Him! Without Him I would be lost! I am now spiritually minded, I seek the things that are eternal, the things of Jesus Christ, the things of Heaven, the things of God! I am a new creation that’s for sure! All is good and gets better every day! I have no worry, I am humbled, and I am at peace! There is no turning back; there is nothing that will keep me from achieving my goals, I have victory over the world! And even though I will eventually die I now have life!

I implore you! Take it from someone who has been around the block a few times! Start a relationship with Jesus Christ today! You won’t regret it! It will be the best thing you will ever do for yourself! Today is the day! Have faith! Cry out to Jesus!

For He says: “In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. – 2 Corinthians 6: 2 (NKJV)

Heavenly Father,
We are humans; we live in a world full of pleasures that are so easily obtainable, they take are focus away from you; they take us away from the things that are eternal. Father, I pray for all those who don’t know you, for all those who may be hurting and need your help. Help us to look to you, help us to look to Jesus! Help us to stay focused and store up treasures in Heaven instead of treasures on the earth that rot and decay! Father, sometimes we may not realize it enough, but we need you! We need your presence so we can reach the ultimate goal – The prize of knowing even though we may die we will live! Thank you Father for all your great gifts, and all your provisions! Thank you for all the things that you do! We want your will on our lives! We need you! In Jesus’ name, Amen!
