God’s word can be thought of as many things, and the bible itself tells us that…
God’s word can be thought of as a Mirror, in James 1:23-25 we read, “For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.”
God’s word can be thought of as a seed, we read in 1 Peter 1:22-25, “Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, because
“All flesh is as grass,
And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass.
The grass withers,
And its flower falls away,
But the word of the Lord endures forever.”
Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.”
God’s word can be thought of as a lamp, The Psalmist tells us in Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.”
God’s word can be thought of as a sword, which is part of the Whole Armor of God. The Apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians 6:10-18, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints”.
God’s word can be thought of as food, we read in Hebrews 5:12-14, that we need to be fed on God’s word in order to grow Spiritually, “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”
God’s word can be thought of as fire, Therefore thus says the Lord God of hosts:
“Because you speak this word,
Behold, I will make My words in your mouth fire,
And this people wood,
And it shall devour them.” (Jeremiah 5:14)
God’s word can be thought of as a hammer “Is not My word like a fire?” says the Lord, “And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?” (Jeremiah 23:29)
God you are powerful and You are mighty! You alone have created and moved many things! Without you, there would be nothing! Without you, we are nothing! You are perfect in all your ways! And when we follow your Son Jesus and commit to reading and following your word we do what it says and we become purified! We become perfected as new creations in you! We are corrected as needed and lead down the right paths! We put on the Whole Armor of God and gird our waists with your truth; we carry the sword of your Spirit, We are protected, we are one with you! We pray always! We are watchful to the end! We continue to feed on your word, we spread your word like fire, we use your word like a hammer that never stops hammering! Father, we thank you for the grace that you have shown upon your children even though we don’t deserve it! We are grateful for all that you do, have done, are doing and our going to do! We delight to do Your will, O my God, and Your law is within our hearts! In Jesus’ Glorious name, amen!
