In most of our homes there hangs a mirror on the wall, and when we look into it we will see a clear image reflected back to us. We see our true appearance; it allows us to see what’s on the outside. Do we have a dirty face? Is our hair messy? Is there a big ole booger hanging from our nose? “Yes, I hope you laughed!” Looking in to the mirror gives us the ability to keep our outward appearance in check. Most of us would agree we like to look good!
When we read God’s word we will find it’s a lot like a mirror, but it reflects a clearer image of what’s on the inside not the outside. It shows the heart, it shows our true self, it convicts us, it confronts us. It helps us to see the dirt within, the trash, the filthiness, the sin. It points out the things that may not be right, the things that need correcting. Reading God’s word is what sets us free!
When you look in the mirror and you see that big ole booger hanging from your nose do you leave it there? I hope not! Clean it up, get rid of it, and fix that messy hair! Do the same when you read you’re Bible, look at it, read it, learn from it, live it, do what it says! Get rid of the dirt, the filthiness, the sin!
The Bible tells us in James 1:22, But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
Receive the word of God and you will be blessed in all that you do. Keep your inward appearance in check so your outward appearance will shine! Let’s look good to God, and represent ourselves as Jesus would!
Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life. Philippians 2:4-16 (NKJV)
Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. James1:21 (NKJV)
Heavenly Father, Help us to keep both inward and outward appearances in check, help us to be doers of your word not just hearers. Bless us and keep us safe from the adversary in all that we do. Help us to shine like Jesus! Father, we thank you and praise you for all the forgiveness and love that only you can continually provide! In all things we pray in His name amen!
