It is Written!

Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ” – Matthew 4:10 (NKJV)

In Mathew 4:1-11 we read that Jesus was tempted many times by Satan and to avoid being tempted Jesus would recite scripture and the devil would flee. Jesus recited scripture from memory and the devil had no power over him.

In order to live life God’s way we need to live a clean, sin free life, and that’s not always easy to do in a world full of temptations! The devil is on the prowl and he loves to see us fail! He will try everything up his sleeve to keep us from God and He will give it his all to do it. We must be ready for him and protect ourselves from the snares of his traps! When Jesus was tempted he would repeat written scripture to the devil and the devil would flee! We must do the same! “Memorize God’s written word; keep it close to your heart, and when you are tempted you will be protected! “

As much as it may hurt, as hard as it may seem, there is only one way to memorize scripture you need to pick up your bible! You need to read it! Ask God for His help, and He will help you! When you wake up in the morning take a few minutes and read! During your lunch break at work, take a few minutes and read! After dinner, before you turn on the TV, take a few minutes and read! Before you go to bed, take a few minutes and read! Need some reading material while you are in the loo? Pick up your bible and read it! Even if it’s just a few short verses, a chapter, or several chapters get in the habit of picking up your bible, and read it! Get it in your mind and when you are tempted the devil will flee!

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your word, thank you for the protection your word gives us when we memorize it and keep it close to our hearts. Father thank you for all that you do in keeping us safe from the traps of the devil and this evil world. Father we all have difficulty breaking bad habits, help us to create a new habit of picking up our bibles and reading them more often so we can be protected and live the life that you expect us to live, free from sin and the desires of the devil! Father we pray that your will be done, in Jesus’ name amen!
