Listening And Doing

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. James 1:19-20 (NIV)

Not only do these two verses fit me to a tee, they are just a small part of the things that James explained to the early Christians that they needed to put into place in order to be right with God. I have struggled with all these things including patience, which has quite often gotten me into trouble and has caused harm to relationships, employment, and life in general. If we move to James 1:22 we read, Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. If we do what the word says we will certainly have less chances to get in to trouble.

Father God, Holy Spirit,
I praise you for the work you have done to open my eyes and heart to know the truth. The lessons learned, the ups and downs, through thick and thin. I’m sure everyone has had their issues with patience, anger, and saying the wrong thing, I know I have! As growing Christians we sometimes need to be reminded that we need to stay focused, and we need to keep our eyes on you! Father, give us the strength to do just that! With these words I pray in Jesus’ name amen!
