Our Past Shapes Our Future

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. II Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)

When you believe in Christ and ask for forgiveness of your sins and repent of your sins, all is put in the past and your slate is cleaned. But our past is not to be forgotten, our past is our history, it shapes our future. Whether good or bad we learn from it, it helps us grow.

God’s word is the same way, reading the bible gives us a way to know God for who He was and who He is, how he shaped the world, and what He wants for our lives. We learn about His design. We learn from the people of old, we learn from their past mistakes and their accomplishments. We learn about Jesus and what He has done for us.

Jesus Christ died on a cross for all of our sins past, present and future. He rose from the grave and ascended back to Heaven, and one day soon He will return and judge us all. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God Romans 3:23 (NKJV)

Heavenly Father, Savior of our souls,
Thank you for the forgiveness that you so easily give. Thank you for your word and the history of old, and the lessons to be learned. Father, help us to learn from our past, help us to seek your word for reference to know how to live the way you designed us to live. Forgive us of our sins, make the slate clean. Help us to stay focused on you and the eternal things. Not our will but yours, In Jesus’ name, amen
