The Cross

The instrument upon which Jesus Christ was crucified; the central point where Christianity begins.

And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha, where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center.  John 19:17 (NKJV)

The Message of the cross gives Christians power over death, for the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18 (NKJV)

By His Stripes we are healed! But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5 (NKJV)

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 (NKJV)

We must deny ourselves, and take up our own cross, we must decrease, and Jesus must increase!  Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. Mark 8:34-35 (NKJV)

The Cross is the central point where Christianity begins but it is not where we should be focused. Christ is no longer on the cross, He is alive, and He is the source and goal that we need to follow. We need to look to His Holy spirit; we need to stand firm in the faith; we need to run with endurance the race that is set before us!

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2 (NKJV)

When we put our faith in Jesus, through the workings of God, we too have been raised up from death to life, buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.  Colossians 2:12-14 (NKJV)

We must overcome the trials that are brought upon us and count them all as joy that we may be perfect and complete. My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,  knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. James 1:2-4 (NKJV)

When we keep our focus on the Lord, and give over to Him all our worries and cares of this world He will protect us! We will persevere! Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved. (Psalms 55:22 NKJV)

He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. Revelation 3:5 (NKJV)

The day of the Lord is near and it’s coming quickly, you must be ready! But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.  2 Peter 3:10 (NKJV)

It will be a great day when the time comes! For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.  1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (NKJV)

Jesus Christ died, He was buried, He rose on the third day! He is alive today! He can forgive you of your sins! Guarantee your name is in the book of life! Ask Jesus to be a part of your life today! What are you waiting for? You can do it!
