The power in God’s name

“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. Exodus 20:7 (NKJV)

One way to be convinced of just how powerful God’s name is would be to listen to an unsaved individual speak. For the non-believer (including myself not that long ago!) using God’s name in vain becomes a part of everyday speech, just like a normal part of the learned language. And most really don’t know how wrong it is. God will indeed hold you guilty! When taking His name in vain! Don’t do it! It is wrong!

As a follower of Christ I now cringe when someone uses God’s name in vain! God is good, God is love, God is the creator of you and me, He is our Father in Heaven! He is highest above all names!

“The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, (Exodus 34:6 NKJV)

Jesus Christ is our only way to connect with God! Don’t separate yourself from Him by using His name in vain! God loves you and wants you to come to repentance and the saving knowledge of His Son, Jesus Christ!

Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. (I John 4:15 NKJV)

Pray a prayer like this….

Heavenly Father,
I ask for forgiveness for all the times I used your name in vain. I realize it was wrong! Please forgive my sins against you! As the Psalmist speaks, Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your loving kindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight— That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge. ~ Psalms 51:1-4 (NKJV) Father, I thank you for your great gifts! Not my will but yours be done! In Jesus’ name amen!
