The bible tells us a lot about prayer, and if we look to the book of James, chapter five verses thirteen through eighteen we will find many examples of what to pray for…
James writes, “Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.” James 5:13-18 (NKJV)
There are many things that we can certainly pray for. James tells us to pray when we are suffering. To pray when things are going well. To pray for the sick. To pray for healing, (not only for ourselves but for those around us). We pray for forgiveness from our sins. We pray for each other. We pray together. We even pray when we need to get things done! Elijah asked that it would not rain and it didn’t rain! He prayed again and guess what? There was rain! Now that’s powerful prayer!
But not only do we pray for our needs but we pray for God’s will to be done. What is His will? Open the bible and read it. Seek for yourself and you will find the answers.
Prayer is our main connection to God and if we want our prayers answered we need to communicate with Him. Not only in prayer but by reading His word and spending time with His Son Jesus and those of the same faith! We come together as one in prayer, believing that all of our prayers will be answered! We pray right now…
Thank you for giving those who put their trust in Your Son Jesus a way to come to you. We thank you for all that you have done and will be doing in the future to come! We ask that Your will be done here on earth as it is in heaven. We ask that our prayers would be answered! We are sinners in need! Sinners indeed! We need all the help we can get!
Father, we pray for the sick, we pray for those that need to be healed, we pray for continued success as we struggle to overcome the things that this godforsaken world so easily brings before us. We pray for those who don’t know you that they will come to the saving knowledge of Your Son! We pray for strength and wisdom and ask that our eyes and ears would be open to those suffering around us. Help us to be all we can be in Christ as we overcome the world as He did! Help us to shine the light of Your grace and love! Jesus some of us are doing well, thank you for Your presence!
In Jesus’ name we pray, amen!
